About vivaNext
There’s a lot of activity happening on Yonge Street in Richmond Hill, including construction of the rapidway with complete streets that include wider sidewalks, more accessibility features, attractive tree planters and bike lanes.
When the rapidway is open for service at the end of 2020, there will be 6.5 km of dedicated bus lanes from Highway 7 to Major Mackenzie Drive, and again from Levendale Road to 19th Avenue/Gamble Road. In the heritage area north of Major Mackenzie Drive, vivaNext will continue to drive in mixed traffic as it does today.
Over the course of the project, storm and sanitary infrastructure are being relocated and water main, gas main, telecommunications and electricity have been updated. The time spent replacing and updating infrastructure is an investment in our community and quality of life. A complete street with rapid transit will serve generations to come. The construction project is about much more than building dedicated lanes for bus rapid transit; it’s about connecting people and places.
Buses heading south on Yonge Street will connect with the Richmond Hill Centre Terminal, which meet up with routes in Vaughan and Markham and the future Yonge Subway Extension.
Buses headed north on Yonge will connect with the Newmarket Bus Terminal, offering connections to the Davis Drive rapidway, trains at the Newmarket GO Station, the Southlake Regional Health Centre, and will continue to the Highway 404 Park & Ride. What’s the result? Increased connections across York Region and the Greater Toronto Area.
